Surviving Through Mental Health

Surviving Through Mental Health is an annual program presented by Norfolk Community Services Board in partnership with Project ORF, a local nonprofit focused on providing mental health education and support to inner city communities.

The purpose of this program is to increase awareness and community knowledge of mental health and wellness, break the silence, reduce the stigma and create a more informed, compassionate and supportive environment where mental health is recognized with the same importance as physical health.

Surviving Through Mental Health: Family Matters

The theme for the 2025 Surviving Through Mental Health program is Family Matters. Discussion topics and collaborations will focus on how stressors that span across generations impact mental health. Themes will explore collective and individual strategies for healing, resilience and support. The goal is to bring people together from diverse backgrounds and age groups to promote understanding, connection and shared experiences.

Join us for an intimate and timely conversation with Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates, Don Scott (88th District) and Delegate Bonita G. Anthony (92nd District), exploring how legislation shapes access to mental healthcare across our communities. This Fireside Chat will unpack the policies, funding decisions and systemic barriers that influence who gets care and who gets left behind. We'll examine how advocacy and policy reform can close the gaps and create more equitable, responsive systems of support.
