Visual Arts Classes

Norfolk Parks & Recreation offers a variety of visual arts classes for all age groups. If you are new to visual arts or want to continue developing your skills, there’s a class for you. As a Norfolk Recreation member, you save up to $15 per class. Join today at any recreation or aquatics facility. Non-member rates are available. 

Some of our most popular classes include but are not limited to: 
 

YOUTH CLAY HANDBUILDING

This class will explore cool molds, texture, glazing, and underglaze application techniques.  Class includes available glaze and kiln firing.  

CLAY HANDBUILDING

This class will explore slump molds, drape molds, texture, glazing, and underglaze application techniques. Class includes studio time (8hrs), available glaze, and kiln firing.  

HOT GLASS

Learn to pair beautiful colored, stained glass together to fuse into one-of-a-kind artwork. 

MOSAICS

Go ahead and break something! Mosaic art is the process of embedding objects onto a surface, using glass, ceramic tile, found objects, and jewelry. 

STAINED GLASS

All levels are welcome! Beginning projects include glass cutting, copper foiling techniques, lead caming, and soldering. 

ORIENTAL BRUSH PAINTING/SUMI-E

Bring nature to life and express the essence of a painting with the beauty and grace of simple brush strokes. 

DRAWING

Build your drawing skills while learning to see the world—and your drawings—with fresh eyes. Expect a lifelong shift in your approach to the drawing process!

POTTERY ON THE WHEEL

Learn how to throw pottery on the wheel and then move into weekly projects, including making cups, vases, pitchers, and bowls. 

SEWING/QUILTING OPEN STUDIO

Experience required and ability to work without an instructor.
