WHAT IS RECREATIONAL THERAPY?
Therapeutic Recreation programs utilize recreation to help individuals with temporary impairments, other health conditions, and disabilities to increase independence, strengthen leisure skills, and enhance personal well-being—physically, cognitively, emotionally, and socially—in a rehabilitative environment.
INCLUSION SERVICES WITHIN THE CITY OF NORFOLK
All programs offered by Norfolk Parks & Recreation encourage participation by a diverse population, aim to meet the needs of those with varying abilities, and support diverse learning styles. When participants require additional support, our Inclusion Specialists develop modification plans and provide other assistance as appropriate.

TRC MISSION STATEMENT
Dedicated to enriching a quality of life through the provision of a comprehensive program that gives individuals with disabilities the opportunity to develop functional skills through therapy, acquire leisure skills through leisure education, and enhance leisure lifestyles through recreation participation in the least restrictive environment, based upon everyone's needs.
CITY OF NORFOLK VISION STATEMENT
We envision a city where race, zip code, and socioeconomic status will no longer predict opportunities, outcomes, or how resources are distributed. We will continue to acknowledge and remove historical policies, practices, and inequities while prioritizing equitable outcomes for all communities.
