During the summer of 2014, it was determined that Norfolk Police recruits would be required to develop and execute a community engagement activity for residents before they graduated.
Norfolk Police Department (NPD) Recruit Class 95, now officers for two months, was the first recruit class to organize the endeavor. Recruit Class 95 hosted a "Trunk or Treat" for Norfolk youth on Halloween Eve in Tidewater Gardens, passed out candy, smiles and made a few young friends.
Creating an Initiative
Every recruit class hereafter will be charged with creating an initiative that will begin their relationship with residents before they are sworn to serve and protect.
