We are sorry for your loss. Although this is a difficult time, it’s crucial to report the death of an employee or member promptly. Please follow the steps below to report the death as soon as possible to determine if a retirement benefit is due to the estate or beneficiaries.

How to Report the Death of an Employee or Member

Upon notification of death, Norfolk Retirement Office will stop monthly retirement benefit payments to prevent overpayment. 

Life Insurance and Retirement Death Benefits may have beneficiary designations that identify the recipient(s) of possible death benefits. In some cases this may not be a spouse or child or the beneficiary may not be designated.
