If you see something suspicious taking place, report that behavior or activity to local law enforcement, or in the case of an emergency call 911.


Report Suspicious Behavior

Prompt and thorough reporting of suspicious activities may prevent a terrorist attack. When reporting suspicious activity, it is helpful to give the most accurate description possible of the situation, including:

  • Brief description of the activity
  • Date, time, and location of the activity
  • Physical identifiers of the person(s) observed
  • Vehicle descriptor information
  • Where any suspicious persons may have gone
  • Your name and contact information (optional)

General Guidelines

  • Be aware of your surroundings. If you feel uncomfortable, leave.
  • When traveling, do not accept packages from strangers even for a minute, and do not leave your own bags unattended, even for a minute.
  • When entering the upper floor of an unfamiliar building, take notice of stairways.
  • Know where fire extinguishers are located in buildings where you spend a lot of time.
  • Report suspicious packages or strange devices to authorities.
  • Report suspicious activities to the Virginia State Police Terrorist Tip Hotline: (877-4VA-TIPS)
