Throughout the year, Norfolk’s City Council accepts and reviews applications for positions on more than 50 Boards and Commissions advising City Council on issues varying from pedestrian improvements, environmental issues, recreation, and more.

How to Apply

  • View the Boards and Commissions informational video featured below.

  • View the current list of vacancies

  • Visit the Norfolk Boards and Commissions website and review Board composition details, meeting times, and term lengths. You may apply to the Board or Commission you are interested in applying directly from their webpage. 

  • After applying, you will receive a confirmation message informing you that your application was successfully submitted.

  • Contact your Councilmember to discuss your application.

City Council reviews applications on a quarterly basis. If appointed, an appointment packet will be mailed to the address provided on your application within seven (7) business days


If you are not appointed, applications are held for one year, and you are encouraged to reapply after one year should additional vacancies become available.
