Throughout the year, Norfolk’s City Council accepts and reviews applications for positions on more than 50 Boards and Commissions advising City Council on issues varying from pedestrian improvements, environmental issues, recreation, and more.

How to Apply

  1. View the current list of vacancies when available.  A full list of Boards and Commissions is also available on the website.
  2. Visit the Norfolk Boards and Commissions website and review Board composition details, meeting times, and term lengths. You may apply to the Board or Commission you are interested in applying directly from their webpage.   3. After applying, you will receive a confirmation letter letting you know your application was successfully submitted.
  4. City Council reviews applications on a quarterly basis. If appointed, an appointment packet will be mailed to the address provided on your application within seven (7) business days.
  5. If you are not appointed, applications are held for one year. Applicants are encouraged to apply after one year should additional vacancies become available.
