[ARCHIVED] Norfolk Public Library Launches Community Sketchbook Project

NORFOLK, VA – Norfolk Public Library (NPL) launches the Community Sketchbook Project this month and wants all ages to participate! Collaborative art projects have the power to bring people together and the goal is to connect the Norfolk community through creativity.

By filling these sketchbooks with a bevy of artwork, residents are helping to create one-of-a-kind masterpieces highlighting the talents and uniqueness of our community. Eventually, the Community Sketchbooks will sit as physical books on the shelves for patrons to check out.

NPL has two Community Sketchbooks available at each branch: one for youth and one for adults. Each comes with a kit including colored pencils, charcoal pencils, and other art mediums.

Check out a Community Sketchbook with an NPL library card, then choose a blank page to share your artistic side! No experience is needed. Simply sketch, draw, write, collage, or go wherever your creative process takes you, then return the sketchbook after two weeks for others to express themselves.

Sketchbooks are available on a first come, first served basis for a two-week lending period, and patrons must sign a User Agreement form. Please note that drawing in the sketchbooks gives NPL permission to showcase your artwork.

Reserve a sketchbook! Visit the online catalog to check availability and place a hold for pick-up.
