[ARCHIVED] Enforcement to Resume at Metered Parking Spaces

One-hour grace period at meters will end June 1

NORFOLK, VA – On June 1, the Parking Division will resume enforcement of metered parking spaces and will end use of the one-hour grace period.

As the pandemic began, the Parking Division acted quickly to provide relief to parking customers, providing free parking in garages, flexible cancellation policies, and deferred payment options to help business and individual customers in the early days of the pandemic. The one-hour grace period at metered parking went into effect in July 2020 as part of the Open Norfolk initiative to provide pandemic relief to restaurants and businesses offering curbside or to-go service.

Now, as pandemic restrictions ease, businesses will benefit from the greater space turnover provided by parking enforcement. Meters include convenient payment options including coins and credit cards. Or download the Park Norfolk app, available on iOs and Android.

On-street parking provides significant revenue to the Parking Division’s enterprise fund, which is used to cover the costs of maintaining and operating the City of Norfolk’s parking operations. These funds help cover expenses for planned improvements including powerful new cleaning equipment, LED lighting upgrades and updated entry and payment systems.

Customers may contact the Parking Division at 757-664-6510 or by email at monthlyparking@norfolk.gov. The customer service center at 222 E. Main Street is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Customers are permitted inside two at a time and must wear a mask in accordance with health and safety guidelines to limit the spread of COVID-19.
