[ARCHIVED] Norfolk Announces New System for Public Records Requests

Submit, track and receive records for requests online

NORFOLK, VA – A new online portal allows those who seek public records from the city to easily submit a request, track its progress, and receive the records.

The city now uses this system to process all city Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. It is supported by GovQA, which provides public records software and support to cities throughout Virginia and the United States. Users may also find the public records request site simply by heading to www.norfolk.gov and selecting Freedom of Information Act from the Government menu.

It’s user friendly and mobile compatible, with easy-to-use menus for both public safety and city government records requests. Find help through plenty of FAQs.

In addition to ease of use for requesters, this software allows city staff to more efficiently handle public records requests by automating some portions of the work and simplifying the process of gathering and submitting responsive records.

Finally, requesters may now pay online for any fees associated with gathering public records.
