Norfolk Celebrates New Families at 14th Annual Adoption Day
30 children found loving, permanent homes this year
NORFOLK, VA – Join us to celebrate love and family as the City of Norfolk recognizes families united through adoption.
In the last year, Norfolk’s Department of Human Services finalized 30 adoptions that placed children in foster care into permanent and loving homes. They joined 801 children statewide who found their forever families through adoption.
Norfolk and the state worked together to streamline the adoption process and move adoptions to completion more quickly in the last year.
Join us at Nauticus on November 4 at 2 p.m. to cheer on these newly expanded families and to hear a proclamation from Norfolk Mayor Kenneth C. Alexander, Ph.D., recognizing November as Adoption Awareness Month.
Norfolk Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court judges, adoption professionals, child advocates, and attorneys will recognize the adoptions of children and encourage the public to consider adopting children in foster care who are legally free to be placed in permanent and loving homes. Approximately 724 children in Virginia and 37 children in Norfolk await adoption.
A reception will follow. Media and interviews are welcome.
Considering adoption? Participate in our classes for adoptive and foster parents. A new class begins January 25, 2020. Register online, call 664-7722 or email.
