[ARCHIVED] MacArthur Memorial to Screen Saving Private Ryan on 81st Anniversary of D-Day

NORFOLK, VA – The MacArthur Memorial will mark the 81st anniversary of D-Day with a free screening of Saving Private Ryan (1998, rated R), directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks and Matt Damon on June 6 at 7 p.m.

The film opens with the Allied landings at Normandy on D-Day and follows a group of soldiers on a mission to find and bring home a soldier whose brothers have been killed in combat.

Dr. Tim Orr, Associate Professor of History at Old Dominion University, will introduce the film and discuss D-Day in the context of "reel" vs "real" history.
