[ARCHIVED] City of Norfolk Offices to Close Due to Inclement Weather

NORFOLK, Va. – Due to impending winter weather, all City of Norfolk government offices, recreation centers and libraries, including The Slover, will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 19. This includes the Norfolk Animal Care Center, MacArthur Memorial, Nauticus, Offices of the Treasurer and Commissioner of the Revenue and the Norfolk Courthouse as well as the Virginia Zoo and Chrysler Museum. The Norfolk Botanical Garden will close at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 19. MacArthur Memorial’s screening of Sands of Iwo Jima has been rescheduled to Friday, Feb. 28.

Waste Management plans to provide regular refuse collection on Wednesday, Feb. 19. Routes for Thursday, Feb. 20, will be collected on Saturday, Feb. 22, while routes for Friday, Feb. 21, will be collected on Monday, Feb. 24. All bulk and yard waste collections for the remainder of this week have been cancelled and will resume next week.

Street parking will be removed downtown along Boush St., Granby St., Main St. and Waterside Dr. starting Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 10 p.m. until Saturday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m. to allow for plowing operations. The York Street Garage and Brambleton Lot will be open until 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, for residents who need parking downtown.

Public Works crews have been actively treating underpasses, bridges and major intersections. Plowing begins when two inches of snow is accumulated, and conditions are safe to do so. Residents are asked to stay off the roads, if possible, once the snow begins so crews can operate and emergency vehicles can respond without interference.

Residents can find more information and additional updates at www.norfolk.gov, the City’s social media platforms or by signing up for Norfolk Alert at www.norfolk.gov/alert.
