[ARCHIVED] MacArthur Memorial to Host Free Screening of Sands of Iwo Jima

NORFOLK, Va. – To mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima, the MacArthur Memorial will host a FREE screening of the 1949 classic, Sands of Iwo Jima, on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.

The film, starring the legendary John Wayne, chronicles the journey of a group of U.S. Marines from their initial training to their harrowing experiences in one of World War II's bloodiest battles. 

Dr. Tim Orr, Associate Professor of History at Old Dominion University, will introduce the film and discuss the Battle of Iwo Jima in the context of "real" history and "reel" history.

Date: Wednesday, Feb. 19
Time: 7 p.m.
Location: MacArthur Memorial Visitors Center
Admission: FREE, open to the public
