Man Convicted of Credit Card Theft, Possessing Ammunition as Felon in Association with 2023 Larcenies
NORFOLK, Va. — Zion Maleek Urquhart, 20, was convicted on Wednesday of credit card theft and possessing ammunition as a convicted felon following his association with two larcenies early last year.
On Jan. 30, 2023, a Nissan Altima was reported stolen from Portsmouth. On Feb. 7, 2023, someone in the Lochhaven area of Norfolk reported a theft of items from their work truck. Surveillance footage from the work truck incident showed the stolen Nissan approaching the unattended truck, two associates of Mr. Urquhart getting out of the Nissan, and one of the individuals stealing items from the truck.
Mr. Urquhart and one of his associates made social media posts on the same day as the theft from the truck depicting themselves holding firearms while behind the wheel of the stolen Nissan and with the stolen items from the truck visible. Mr. Urquhart’s post was timestamped about a half hour after the victim of the truck incident contacted Norfolk Police.
On Feb. 9, 2023, police located the Nissan, searched it, and found the stolen items from the truck. Among the items recovered from the car were credit cards and handgun ammunition. Mr. Urquhart has a history of juvenile delinquency adjudications in Norfolk and is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition.
On Wednesday, Mr. Urquhart pleaded guilty to his two charges, and Judge Mary Jane Hall accepted his plea. Mr. Urquhart is docketed for sentencing on April 5.
Assistant Commonwealth’s Stephanie G. Johnson is prosecuting Mr. Urquhart’s case on behalf of the Commonwealth, and Norfolk Police Detective Kyle G. Phillips led the investigation.
