NORFOLK, Va. –The Norfolk Department of Public Health, in partnership with the Norfolk Prevention Coalition, will host a REVIVE! training on Tuesday, May 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. at 830 Southampton Avenue in recognition of National Fentanyl Awareness Day.
Fentanyl, a potent and deadly opioid, is often consumed unknowingly by users and is the driving force of the recent increase in U.S. overdose deaths. Preliminary data from 2022 shows that 75 percent of total fatal drug overdoses in the City of Norfolk were from fentanyl. People (especially young people) are dying at alarming rates due to illegally made fentanyl.
This free training will provide an overview of fentanyl, common fentanyl-laced drugs, risk factors for opioid overdoses and information on how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose using naloxone, a prescription medicine that reverses opioid overdoses and helps the person to breathe again. REVIVE! is Virginia’s Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Education program. Registered participants will receive naloxone or Narcan at the end of the training.
Register online for this event.
