City of Norfolk Launches New City Website, MyNorfolk Smartphone Application and Resident Portal
The new platforms will allow citizens to search city services and make requests “on the go”
NORFOLK, VA – Residents, businesses and visitors are now connected to the City of Norfolk like never before with a customized, data-driven, online experience that will allow them to submit services requests, find city information, and pay city bills with ease. With the launch of the city’s new website, MyNorfolk smartphone application, and online resident portal, citizens will feel better connected to the city programs, news and services they want most.
“We recognized the need for an enhanced system to better serve citizens,” said Chip Filer, City Manager. “Residents, businesses and visitors can now find what they want, when they want and track their requests in real-time right on their favorite device. These new platforms put the power of city government in the palm of their hand.”
Last year, the City collected feedback from residents, employees and community stakeholders on the functionality of the old Norfolk.gov and resident portal. “Outdated”, “cluttered” and “difficult to navigate” were just a few of the words used to describe those platforms. The new Norfolk.gov, resident portal and MyNorfolk mobile app are easy to navigate and mobile friendly. The data-driven design prominently positions the most popular services on the home page, including trash collection, pothole repair, bulk item pick-up and tall weeds and grass.
With just one-click from the Norfolk.gov home page, citizens can submit their service requests through the MyNorfolk resident portal. Citizens can also download the MyNorfolk mobile app and login using their Facebook or Google account to track their service requests in real-time. Through GPS and camera functionality, the app also allows users to upload pictures related to their requests while “on the go.” In addition to service requests, the MyNorfolk app will provide access to City Council news, events, parking and other services found on Norfolk.gov to help keep citizens up-to-date with new information.
The upgraded city website, resident portal and new MyNorfolk mobile application are integrated across multiple platforms, that will eventually include Amazon’s Alexa, to deliver seamless customer service. As feedback is collected, continuous improvements will be made to the new site, online resident portal and app.
