Responsibilities & Services
The Central Records Division is a part of the Norfolk Police Department's Administrative Services Bureau. Some divisional responsibilities include:
- Processing all arrest warrants, summonses, and related legal documents received from courts, Probation and Parole Offices, and other law enforcement agencies.
- Criminal Histories, Fingerprinting, and Background checks
- Incident and Accident Report Clerk
Central Records Division serves as a department liaison with the:
- The Department of Criminal Justice Services
- National Crime Information Center
- Federal Bureau of Investigation
- The Virginia State Police
- Others for information and data exchange
Central Records is comprised of the following units:
- Central Desk for the Norfolk Police Department
- False Alarm Section
- Funeral Escort Section
- Identification/Fingerprinting Section
- Court Process Unit
- Property and Evidence Unit
- Technology Support Unit
- The Public Service Counter
- Warrant Office
- Incident Reporting Unit
