Central Records Division

Responsibilities & Services

The Central Records Division is a part of the Norfolk Police Department's Administrative Services Bureau. Some divisional responsibilities include:

  • Processing all arrest warrants, summonses, and related legal documents received from courts, Probation and Parole Offices, and other law enforcement agencies.  
  • Criminal Histories, Fingerprinting, and Background checks
  • Incident and Accident Report Clerk


Central Records Division serves as a department liaison with the:

  • The Department of Criminal Justice Services
  • National Crime Information Center
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation
  • The Virginia State Police
  • Others for information and data exchange


Central Records is comprised of the following units:

  • Central Desk for the Norfolk Police Department
  • False Alarm Section
  • Funeral Escort Section
  • Identification/Fingerprinting Section
  • Court Process Unit
  • Property and Evidence Unit
  • Technology Support Unit
  • The Public Service Counter
  • Warrant Office
