Commonwealth v. Domonic S. Craig

Commonwealth's Attorney Posted on July 22, 2025 | Last Updated on July 22, 2025

Man Sentenced to 3 ½ Years After Pleading Guilty to Possessing Schedule I/II Drugs with Guns Following Police Search of Home from Shooting in Neighborhood

NORFOLK, Va. — Domonic Sharod Craig, 36, pleaded guilty to four felony and two misdemeanor gun- and drug-related charges after he randomly fired a gun in front of his house last year, striking a neighbor’s house and prompting a search of Mr. Craig’s house in which police recovered several firearms, large quantities of illegal drugs, and distribution materials.

On April 1, 2024, Mr. Craig stood in front of his house on Woodview Avenue and shot at a cardboard box multiple times with one of his firearms. One of the bullets fired by Mr. Craig struck the window frame of a neighbor’s house while they were home, and Mr. Craig’s neighbors called Norfolk Police. Doorbell camera footage from a neighbor’s home captured Mr. Craig firing his gun at the box. It is unclear why Mr. Craig was shooting at it.

Police responded to Mr. Craig’s house and detained him, and Mr. Craig told officers that he lived alone. Investigators saw numerous bullet casings in his front and back yards and later secured a search warrant for his home with the goal of recovering any firearms. While searching inside Mr. Craig’s house, investigators recovered five handguns, one AR-style semi-automatic shotgun, magazines, ammunition, more than 13 pounds of marijuana, hundreds of methamphetamine pills, more than one hundred heroin pills, a shipping scale, labels, and packaging materials.

On June 18, 2025, Mr. Craig entered an agreement to plead guilty to unlawfully discharging a firearm at an occupied dwelling, possessing Schedule I/II drugs with the intent to distribute, possessing over five pounds of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possessing a firearm while possessing Schedule I/II drugs, reckless handling of a firearm, and discharging a firearm in a public place. For those charges, Mr. Craig agreed to serve three years and six months in prison with another nine years and six months suspended on the conditions that he complete three years of supervised probation and five years of uniform good behavior following his release and have no contact with his neighbor. Judge Jamilah D. LeCruise accepted Mr. Craig’s plea agreement and sentenced him in accordance with the agreement.

“Mr. Craig should not have been dealing drugs or possessing guns, and had he kept a low profile he may never have come to the attention of the police,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi. “By shooting off a gun in the city limits, Mr. Craig got himself arrested and will now be spending time in prison. My office and I will continue to focus on people who engage in dangerous gunplay and who deal drugs in our community.”

Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Tara Sue Terwilliger prosecuted Mr. Craig’s case, and Norfolk Police Detective Patrick A. Garvey led the investigation.
