[ARCHIVED] Norfolk Police investigating undetermined deaths following barricade situation

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Detectives are continuing to investigate two undetermined deaths in connection with a late-night barricade situation in the 3900 block of Peterson Street.

On May 1st, around 9:30 a.m. Norfolk Police responded to a home in the 3900 block of Peterson Street as part of an ongoing investigation related to a missing person’s report. On April 30th it had been reported that a 33-year-old woman was believed to be missing.

When officers arrived, they attempted to speak with a man involved and he barricaded himself inside of the residence.

As a result, the Hostage/Crisis Negotiation Team and Special Operations Team responded out to the scene, and following a period of negotiations with the man, he was found inside the home suffering from a self-inflicted, gunshot wound.

The 38-year-old man was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where he was later pronounced deceased.

A 33-year-old woman was also found in the home suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound, and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official manner and cause of death.

Names of those involved will be released pending the notification of a next of kin.
