Next time you're about to hit the road, keep these driving tips in mind.
There are three main types of driving distractions:
- Visual: taking your eyes off the road
- Manual: taking your hands off the wheel
- Cognitive: taking your mind off of driving
Any activity that takes your attention away from driving is a distraction, even hands-free phone use.
Avoid these common distractions and handle them before you drive:
- Texting, taking or making phone calls (including hands-free)
- Checking or sending emails
- Other passengers
- Eating
- Adjusting GPS, music, podcast or audiobook.
Remember: When you're behind the wheel, your only job is to drive.
