Norfolk’s Department of Transportation and Police Department announced that the school zone speed photo enforcement program will begin soon.
A total of 19 cameras have been installed around 10 Norfolk Public School locations. Camera activation will occur on March 4, with an initial 60-day warning period for drivers.
The program’s goal is to increase driver compliance in the reduced speed zones while improving the safety of students at nearby schools.
It also aligns with Norfolk's Vision Zero plan, which aims to eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries while increasing safety, mobility and equity for all road users.
