It's time to replace your batteries or, at the very least, test your alarms. Many newer smoke alarms use lithium batteries that can last up to ten years but should still be tested at least once a month. If your home does not have a working smoke alarm or if the existing alarm is more than ten years old, submit a smoke detector request online at MyNorfolk.org, through the My Norfolk App, or call 757-664-6510 to request a free smoke alarm installation by the nearest fire station.
