[ARCHIVED] Norfolk Police identify man killed on Monroe Place

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate the officer involved shooting that happened early Tuesday morning in Larchmont.

On June 21, 2022, around 5:15 a.m., officers arrived at the 5500 block on Monroe Place to arrest 41-year-old Antonio J. Beekman who was wanted out of the City of Virginia Beach for malicious wounding, use of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Upon locating Beekman, officers assigned to the Special Operations Team, identified themselves as police officers. After identifying themselves, Beekman began to shoot at the officers. Four Officers returned fire, and Beekman sustained life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.

The officers involved have been placed on administrative duty pending the investigation.
