NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Norfolk Police have arrested and charged a man responsible for the pursuit that ended near Ballentine Blvd and I-264.
On May 26, 2022, around 10:05 p.m., officers were in the area of the Walmart located at 7530 Tidewater Drive when they were advised that an off-duty Norfolk Sheriff’s Deputy was struck by a vehicle when attempting to make a larceny arrest. While the Officers were approaching the scene, the officers spotted the suspects’ vehicle and attempted to pull it over; however, the driver refused to stop.
The Officers continued to pursue the vehicle to the 700 block of Ballentine Blvd when the suspect side swiped a patrol vehicle and struck a citizen’s vehicle. The suspect continued to flee until he crashed near the entrance ramp to I-264. The suspect was then taken into custody without further incident.
The driver of vehicle suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene. The suspect was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No law enforcement officers were injured.
As a result of the investigation, Detectives have charged 47-year-old Thomas L. Madison with the following: Hit & Run, Driving Under the Influence, Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Attempted Malicious Wounding of a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest, Disregard Police Command to Stop, and Petit Larceny.
Madison is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond.
