[ARCHIVED] Norfolk Police arrest man following shooting on Tidewater Drive

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Detectives have arrested and charged a man in connection to a shooting on Thursday afternoon.  

Around 1:35 p.m. on May 20, 2021 police were dispatched to a home in the 8500 block of Tidewater Drive for the report of a gunshot victim. When officers arrived, they found a 18-year-old man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound inside of the residence. The man was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment, and he remains in stable condition. 

The preliminary investigation has revealed the shooting was the result of an accidental discharge of a gun. As a result, detectives have charged Damon D. Mitchell, 25, of Norfolk, with reckless handling of a firearm.  Arrest Photo - Damon Mitchell

Mitchell is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail with no bond.
