[ARCHIVED] Norfolk Police Department warns residents about scam

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – The Norfolk Police Department is warning residents about a fraudulent notice that is reportedly being received by residents in the mail.

City officials and the police department were recently made aware of residents receiving a notice in the mail from an Indianapolis based Collection Service, CCS Collection Services. The notice says the resident owes overdue payments to the City of Norfolk for street cleaning services.

The City of Norfolk is not sending out notices in the mail for street cleaning services, and Norfolk Police reminds residents to always be careful about sending money to unverified sources.

Residents who think they have been a victim of fraudulent activity such as this are encouraged to report it to the Federal Bureau of Investigations at https://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx.Scam Alert - 051320
