[ARCHIVED] Medical Examiner rules undetermined death as a homicide

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Norfolk has determined the death of a 2-year-old girl to be a homicide.

On August 18, 2020, around 3:00 p.m., police responded to the 1300 block of Jennifer Street for the report of an unresponsive child. When officers arrived, they located the unresponsive 2-year-old girl inside of a home. Medics transported the child to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters where she was later pronounced deceased.

As a result of the Medical Examiner’s ruling, Detectives have arrested and charged Jessica A. Cherry, 37, of Norfolk, with second degree murder.
