NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Economic Crimes Detectives are advising residents about a fraudulent email that is being distributed.
As of April 30, 2020, several citizens have reported receiving an email telling them to deposit money in a Bitcoin account. The email says that the sender has the recipient’s password, and if money is not deposited into the Bitcoin account, the sender is going to share the recipient’s personal information on the internet.
Norfolk Police want residents to know that this email is a scam, and to always be careful about sending money to unverified sources.
Detectives encourage any residents who has been a victim of electronic fraudulent activity to report it to the Federal Bureau of Investigations at https://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx.
