NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – A 29-year-old woman has been charged for an incident that led to an officer discharging a firearm on E. Princess Anne Road in Norfolk.
As a result of the investigation, Dorothy R. Maddrey of Norfolk was charged with trespassing. Maddrey was released on a personal recognizance bond.
On January 2, 2020 around 2:00 a.m., officers responded to the WAWA gas station located at 3360 E. Princess Anne Road for a report of an armed woman who was threatening store employees. This was the third time officers responded to the WAWA about this person since 10:00 p.m. on January 1st. In each instance, the woman, identified as Dorothy Maddrey, fled prior to the officers’ arrival.
Following the third call, Maddrey was located in her vehicle parked in the 3300 block of E. Princess Anne Road. The officers confronted Maddrey and while ordering her from the vehicle, an officer’s firearm discharged into Maddrey’s vehicle. Maddrey was taken into custody without further incident. Neither Maddrey or the officers involved were injured during the arrest.
The Norfolk Police Department is investigating the actions of the officer involved in this incident.
