[ARCHIVED] Two Norview Middle School students arrested for threatening statements

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk detectives have charged two Norview Middle School students with threatening to harm their classmates.

Around 11:40 p.m. Monday night, Norfolk Police received a call about a possible threat on social media toward Norview Middle School stating, “Shooting up Norview Middle School tomorrow”.

As a result of their investigation, Norfolk Police arrested an 11-year-old, 6th grade, Norview Middle School student.  She is facing a Class 6 felony charge for making threats of death or bodily injury to a person or persons on school property.

While investigating the social media threat, police were notified that another student made a verbal threat that he was going to send a bomb to school. Police arrested a 13-year-old, 7th grade, Norview Middle School student.  He is facing a Class 1 misdemeanor for making threats toward the school.

Parents are encouraged to speak with their children about the seriousness of making threats verbally and on social media. These crimes carry potentially significant consequences such as detention and/or fines.

Norfolk Police and security staff from Norfolk Public Schools take these threats seriously and both agencies will continue to work together to ensure the safety of our students and our community.
