NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – The Norfolk Police Traffic Fatality
Team is investigating a fatal crash Wednesday night involving a motorcycle.
Shortly after 8:20 p.m., police were called to the 6600
block of N. Military Highway at the intersection of Longdale Drive for an
accident involving a motorcycle and a Ford Expedition. When police and paramedics arrived, they found
a 58-year-old motorcyclist lying in the roadway unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation has revealed the Ford SUV was
traveling northbound on Military Highway and attempted to make a left turn onto
Longdale Drive. The Ford pulled into the
oncoming traffic lanes and was incidentally struck by a motorcyclist that was
traveling southbound on Military Highway. The motorcyclist was ejected from his
bike and died at the scene. The driver
of the Ford Expedition, a 33-year-old woman, was uninjured and remained at the
scene.
At this time, alcohol and speed do not appear to be
contributing factors in this crash.
Once the Norfolk Police Traffic Fatality Team completes
their investigation, their findings will be turned over the Commonwealth
Attorney’s Office for determination of charges.
