[ARCHIVED] Arrest made in Norfolk homicide

Norfolk Police have arrested the man accused of killing 22-year-old Richard W. Owens.

Shortly after 4:30 a.m. on August 2, 2015, Richard Owens was found dead outside a residence in the 900 block of Bagnall Road. Immediately following the discovery of Owens, police were alerted to another shooting victim in the 800 block of E. Olney Road. 19-year-old Al’Jae R. Walton of Norfolk was discovered suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at the second location.

Detectives have confirmed the two incidents are related. Both men exchanged gunfire following an early-morning altercation in the 900 block of Bagnall Road. Walton fled from the area, but collapsed a few blocks from the initial scene.

Walton was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he was listed in critical condition for several days.

On August 8, 2015, Walton was released from the hospital and transported to the Norfolk City Jail where he was served with one count each of 2nd degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Walton remains in the Norfolk City Jail without bond.
