[ARCHIVED] Two in custody after stolen car crashes

On July 14, 2015 shortly before 5:00 p.m., Norfolk police attempted a traffic stop on a confirmed stolen vehicle traveling northbound in the 6100 block of Tidewater Drive. The driver of the stolen car lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the roadway, strike a light pole and flip onto its roof. Two people were taken into custody at the scene and transported to an area hospital for evaluation. One person was able to run from the area and police are continuing to search for the man.

The remaining suspect has been described as a black male, approximately 5’10”, 18-25 years of age, wearing a white tank top and blue jeans. He was last seen running in the 6100 block of Sedgefield Drive.

The stolen vehicle, a silver Volvo sedan, sustained major damage. The two occupants taken into custody are being evaluated for what appears to be non-life threatening injuries and it is unknown if the remaining suspect sustained any injuries during the accident. There were no other injuries or damage to report.

Both the north and southbound lanes in the 6100 block of Tidewater Drive remain closed pending the completion of the accident investigation.

At this time, the preliminary investigation is still ongoing. There is no further information available for release.
