On 6/25/2015, shortly after 6:30 P.M., a woman called 9-1-1 dispatchers and reported that an unknown man was inside her house in in the 1400 block of Kempsville Road.
The woman stated that she was hiding inside the house waiting for police to arrive. When police arrived, they observed a man who fit the description the woman provided to dispatchers attempting to leave the victims house.
The man fled on foot into a wooded area. A perimeter was set up and the man was ordered to come out of the wooded area.
The suspect, who police have identified as 24-year-old Ervin Powell did not comply and was subsequently apprehended by a Norfolk Police K-9. Powell was treated for minor injuries sustained during the K-9 apprehension.
Powell is being charged with 1 count of Burglary, 1 count of Attempted Petit Larceny. Powell also had an existing warrant on file for Burglary, he is currently being held at the Norfolk City Jail without bond
