Shortly before 1:30 p.m. on June 6, 2015, Norfolk Police and Fire Rescue responded to the intersection of Terminal Boulevard and Hampton Boulevard for a traffic accident. Upon arrival, they discovered a family was traveling in the westbound lane of Terminal Boulevard when a 12-year-old boy in the vehicle opened the rear door while the car was still moving. The boy jumped from the car, and sustained significant injuries. Medics immediately transported the child to the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters (CHKD), where he is currently being evaluated.

The Norfolk Police Traffic Unit is handling the investigation, which is still ongoing. One westbound lane of Terminal Boulevard near the intersection of Hampton Boulevard is presently closed. Norfolk Police ask motorists to avoid the area, if possible. At this time, there is no further information available for release.
