[ARCHIVED] NPD Investigates Early-Morning Fatal Accident

Shortly after 12:15 am this morning, Norfolk Police responded to a single vehicle accident in the 1200 block of Hampton Boulevard, near the intersection of Princess Anne Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered a truck had left the roadway and struck a tree. A woman was transported from the scene to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, and later pronounced deceased. The woman’s identity will not be released until next of kin is properly notified. The Norfolk Police Traffic Fatality Team is handling the investigation, which is still ongoing.

Update: Norfolk Police have identified the woman killed in an early-morning vehicle accident. 45-year-old Amy M. Zakowski of Portsmouth was pronounced deceased this morning after the vehicle she was driving left the roadway and struck a tree in the 1200 block of Hampton Boulevard. The preliminary investigation has revealed that speed was a factor in the accident.
