[ARCHIVED] Midtown Tunnel Blocked in Both Directions

The Midtown Tunnel is currently closed in both directions due to an earlier crash inside the tunnel. Norfolk Police responded to the Midtown Tunnel around 3:45 this afternoon for a three-vehicle accident. The investigation has revealed a woman driving a Ford Explorer from Portsmouth to Norfolk sideswiped a 4-door car driven by another woman. The Ford Explorer continued to cross into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Toyota Tundra, also driven by a woman. Both drivers of the Ford Explorer and the Toyota Tundra were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with what appears to be non-life threatening injuries. The driver of 4-door sedan was not injured. The driver of the Ford Explorer will be cited for "Reckless Driving" and "Failure to Maintain Control of Vehicle." No other injuries were reported. As of right now, both eastbound and westbound lanes of the Midtown Tunnel are blocked. All traffic from Norfolk to Portsmouth are being re-routed to the Downtown Tunnel.
