[ARCHIVED] Medical Examiner rules undetermined death a homicide

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Norfolk has ruled the death of a 4-month-old infant in 2024 as a homicide.

On April 22, 2024, shortly before 12:20 a.m., police were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Suburban Parkway for the report of an unresponsive infant. When first responders arrived, the infant was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased by medical providers. 

Following their investigation, Homicide detectives have charged Alvetta J. Haskins, 50, of Norfolk, with second-degree murder. 

Haskins was taken into custody by Norfolk Police on January 1, 2025, and is currently being held at the Norfolk City Jail without bond.
