[ARCHIVED] Man taken into police custody following barricade on Chesapeake Boulevard

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – A man was taken into custody by police following a barricade situation on Chesapeake Boulevard Tuesday afternoon. 

On January 9, 2024, around 3:35 p.m. officers were called to the 6200 block of Chesapeake Boulevard for the report of a person with a weapon. When Officers arrived, it was determined the man was experiencing a mental health crisis.

As a result, the Hostage/Crisis Negotiation Team and Special Operations Team responded to the scene, and following a period of negotiations the man was taken into custody shortly before 5:00 p.m.

The man was transported to the hospital to receive treatment for self-inflicted injuries and is expected to survive.
