[ARCHIVED] Pedestrian hit by SUV has life-threatening injuries

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – A pedestrian was taken to the hospital Wednesday night with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a SUV near Granby Street and Maycox Avenue.

The crash occurred just after 7:45 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the 7400 block of Granby Street.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that a man was stuck by a Toyota RAV4 while attempting to run across Granby Street.  The driver, who stated at the scene, was not injured.  Speed and alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor for the driver.

The pedestrian was quickly taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Norfolk Police Traffic Fatality Team is investigating the crash. Currently, the southbound lanes of the 7400 block of Granby are closed and motorist should expect to be rerouted.  Once their investigation is complete, the roadway will reopen.

There were no other injuries reported, and no other vehicles involved.
