Construction Update from Heartland Construction

Construction at the Maury High School project site is moving forward in February 2026.

Utility upgrades along Washington Park and Colonial Avenue are nearing completion, and those areas will soon be fully restored for public use. Utility work will continue along the southbound side of Llewellyn.

Construction is active on both sides of Llewellyn, and there will be regular deliveries of materials and equipment this month.

This February, work begins on a deep foundation system called Rigid Inclusions (RIs), which are strong columns made of grout, installed more than 40 feet into the ground in a layer of bedrock. The RIs will provide the structural integrity to support the building as it goes up. A large drilling machine will be moving around the site to install these foundations.

After the RI installation is complete, work will begin on the shallower concrete foundations.

Heartland Construction thanks the community for its patience and support as they continue building the new Maury High School.

Maury MHSP White Shirt Ceremony

Maury High School’s Medical and Health Specialty Program (MHSP) celebrated its 17th Annual Senior Recognition and White Shirt Ceremony on Dec. 18, featuring guest speaker and Maury graduate Lola Humes, (Class of 2025). The event honored seniors for their commitment to the rigorous program.

Maury’s long-standing partnership with Eastern Virginia Medical School, established in 1986, gives students access to EVMS courses and exceptional AP opportunities. The school continues to lead Norfolk Public Schools in AP participation and success.

As Maury prepares for its new building, the MHSP remains a cornerstone in developing future healthcare professionals.
