The City of Norfolk, the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore and the local IT firm Concursive, have partnered on a program called We Feed Norfolk which is designed to fight food insecurity in the city. The program utilizes a mobile app that gives residents the opportunity to make food donations using their smart phones and organizes food drives year-round in partnership with different local organizations in a variety of formats.
The City’s endorsement of We Feed Norfolk, its contribution of $25,000 to the program, and its partnerships with local organizations
have resulted in the collection of over 35,000 pounds of food, the equivalent of 28,633 meals to improve the quality of life of Norfolk residents struggling with food insecurity. The original goal was to reach 10,000 households through the neighborhood program but the growth of the program to the various formats has allowed us to grow resident participation even more. To date, there have been over 400 downloads of the We Feed Norfolk app.
The app is now available on
iTunes and
Google Play.
