Idalia Update 8/31/2023 at 3:30 pm

Posted on August 31, 2023 at 3:43 PM by Daniel Hudson

All,

Please see the latest brief from the NWS.

We are reaching the end of any real chance of rainfall (drops from 30% to 5% chance of rain at 5 pm) and the wind gusts will continue to fall until tomorrow (Friday) at 1 pm.

The flooding forecast has not changed; we should still see moderate flooding at 10 pm tonight.  As such, General Services has made the York Street Garage and Brambleton Lot open for residents in low-lying areas to park their vehicles at no charge until noon Saturday.  And again, Storm Water crews will continue to monitor and respond as appropriate with regard to closing the flood gate(s).

As you’ll also see on the Tide Chart, tomorrow’s 11 am high tide should produce more nuisance flooding on the roadways which we’ve come to be familiar with, but nothing too significant.

This is intended to be the final update related to Idalia.

Thanks, everyone!

Jim Redick

Director, Emergency Preparedness and Response
