Brownfield Site Redeveloped into Interim Use Open Space

Posted on June 10, 2021 at 8:14 PM by Stephanie Daniel

The City of Norfolk is excited to break ground on Water Street Open Space in June of 2021. City funds in addition to a $500,000 grant from the Virginia Brownfields Restoration and Economic Redevelopment Assistance Fund and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, and funding from the Environmental Protection Agency covers the cost of the $1 million project and provides funding for the environmental analysis, design and construction. The project will feature an open space design, stormwater amenities, environmental capping of the site, and new native plantings. Anticipated completion of the project is early Fall 2021.
