This morning the Virginia Department of Health reports 647,111 total confirmed, and probable cases of COVID-19 and 10,595 total deaths related to the virus in the Commonwealth.
The seven-day positivity rate, PCR only, for the Commonwealth is 6.1%.
Norfolk is credited with 17,019 total cases and 242 deaths with an 8.5% seven-day positivity rate, PCR only.
According to the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association, 1,046 residents in Virginia are currently hospitalized due to the virus. Over 53,575 confirmed COVID-19 patients have been hospitalized and discharged.
VDH reports that 5,345,314 people in Virginia have received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine. Over 2,137,820 people have been fully vaccinated.
The Commonwealth has received 5,472,815 doses of vaccine and are administering just over 77,980 doses a day.
To date in Norfolk, 97,490 people have received the vaccine and 34,644 people are fully vaccinated.

Virginia’s COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility Opens for All Adults: As of Sunday, April 18, all Virginians age 16 and older are eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine. This expansion of eligibility comes as Virginia reaches a new milestone in its vaccination program — approximately half of all adults in the Commonwealth have received at least one dose.
We are heading in the right direction for herd immunity. Nealy 40% of the Virginians have received at least one dose and of those, 25% of them are fully vaccinated.
Moving closer to home, 26% of our Norfolk community has received at least one dose and of those, 14% of them are fully vaccinated.
As to help spread the word, this morning the Virginia Department of Emergency Management issued a FEMA approved wireless emergency alert system message letting residents know that everyone in Virginia 16 years old and above are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.
Also, last week Governor Northam released a video encouraging all Virginians seeking a vaccination opportunity to call the statewide call center at 877-VAX-IN-VA (877-829-4682, TTY users call 7-1-1) or use the new Vaccinate Virginia website, vaccinate.virginia.gov, to find vaccine.
For those who don’t want to wait, the FEMA-supported Community Vaccination Center located at Military Circle Mall is accepting walk-ins through Saturday, May 1. The center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you aren’t provided a vaccine that day, you will be scheduled for time to come back within the following days to receive your shot.
