The Virginia Department of Health reports 471 additional confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and nine new deaths related to the virus in the Commonwealth as of Monday morning, June 22.

Currently, there are 58,465 total cases in Virginia and 1,620 deaths.  Norfolk is credited with 746 total cases and seven deaths.

According to the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association, 848 residents in Virginia are currently hospitalized due to the virus. Over 7,600 confirmed COVID-19 patients have been hospitalized and discharged.

As a reminder, Governor Ralph Northam’s Executive Order 63 is still in effect, which requires the use of face coverings while inside buildings.

The Virginia Zoo will open to public this Thursday, June 25; however, the reopening will come with some modifications and a new schedule.

  • The Zoo will limit capacity - about 25% of its normal capacity - to ensure no overcrowding. All tickets must be purchased and reserved in advance for a specific time slot. Reservations are available beginning at 10 am with the last reservation at 3 pm.
  • The Zoo will be open to the public and its members, Thursday to Monday. Tuesday and Wednesdays will be for Zoo Members only. The hours are 10 am to 5 pm and reservations are required.
  • The Zoo will be a one-way, one-mile loop which includes several exhibits, including the zoo’s Asian and African exhibits and Animal Wellness Campus.
  • Face masks will be required for all staff, volunteers, and visitors ages 10 and older while entering the zoo, inside indoor exhibits and within 6 feet of a different group.
