4:30am Update: City Manager Mr. Smith participated on a conference call with Governor Northam. The decision has been made to maintain the mandatory evacuation order. The area, which has received a Presidential Emergency Declaration, is still under a Tropical Storm Watch and a Coastal Flood Watch will be in effect 8am September 14 until 8pm September 15. Click here for the NWS Hurricane Local Statement. The Governor will be holding a press conference this evening at 5:45pm.
Along with the State, FEMA is also committed to providing full logistical support. While entrenched in the Virginia EOC, FEMA has also taken the unprecedented step to assign a FEMA liaison in our local EOC’s. The support from at the State and Federal level has been excellent,and the contributions and collaboration among our Team Norfolk partners has been amazing!!
As it pertains to Sheltering, the last count is 85. Noview HS = 50, Crossroads Elementary = 18, Bayview Community Center = 9, Campostella = 6, Berkley Community Center = 2. Additionally, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and Virginia Department of Social Services opened two state-managed shelters at Christopher Newport University and The College of William and Mary.
Remember, the Norfolk EOC and Joint Information Center (JIC) has been moved to the Norfolk Police 3rd Precinct. Working under a full activation, staff will be on site 24/7 until further notice.
