Team Norfolk,

Please see the NWS Tropical Storm Florence Decision Support Briefing as provided by Jeff Orrock, Meteorologist-In-Charge at the NWS in Wakefield.  Key takeaways are as follows:

  • Florence is expected to intensify becoming a major hurricane off the southeast US coast later next week.
  • No exact impacts can be predicted at this time and changes can be expected in forecast track, timing and intensity.
  • Based on forecast and model trends there is increasing confidence that the east coast may feel impacts from Florence mid to late week.
  • This weekend is a good time to review hurricane plans, review preparations and assess disaster supply kits.

Next NWS Support Briefing is expected by noon Saturday.

The Norfolk Emergency Operations Center will participate in a VDEM / NWS conference call at 2pm, immediately followed by an EOC briefing / discussion.  Summary will be posted/shared with you for your planning purposes.
